Outside their first film: Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street are horrible franchises

All three original films really nailed it and are classics and honestly are rather self contained and stood in no need for sequels. The movies that followed on each franchise were all rather bad with some only raising to the level of mediocre at times. All three franchises were also trying to outdo each other with their respective killers Myers, Jason and Freddy and as a result lost their identity.

The Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street sequels are pretty fun and entertaining. The Halloween movies are inconsistent, but a few of the sequels are pretty good.

idk about y’all but friday the 13th has been a consistently mediocre franchise from movie 1. nothing really spectacular besides the reveal in the first, after that we get a lot of standard slasher fare we know and love.

Friday the 13th, first four are SOLID! then still a few good ones (6, 7)
Nightmare, i think 3 is the only decent sequel but they're kinda entertaining (except 2)
Halloween kinda stinks, first movie is great, 2 is ok, and its a total mess after that.

The first FRIDAY THE 13th is pretty terrible too. All of those series have some sequels that are amusing or entertaining. Even the most worthless of them--F13 again--has some of Tom Savini's good work in the 4th one, and goes off into the ozone magnificently with the 6th and 7th pictures. If all of these series would have ended after the first, the world would be no poorer for the loss.
