Any solution to super hero CGI endings?

I'm not a FAN of superhero films, MOSTLY because they all devolve into a cartoon CGI action fest for the "exciting ending" part.
I get WHY they do that, but can anyone think of some better way to resolve it without all that punching fake people into buildings, and blowing up everything is glorious, boring, non-perilous CGI fashion?

Would like to hear some good discussion and options on this, since it seems every action flick does this, and it feels flat.

Maybe it is JUST me that is bored with these endings. Is it??

Well pretty much all of them do it now so its no longer a spectacle it once was but I am not sure how to get around it. IN superhero films you usually end with a battle to defeat the bad guy and CGI is pretty much the only way to do it nowadays. Practical effects still have there place, but it would be extremely difficult to reproduce the scale you need for superhero films using just practical effects with modern audiences, you need only watch older superhero films to see this. Superman was a great film when it was released and still is a classic, but its a classic for its time. If Man of Steel handled the effects work like Superman did people would be screaming how cheap and dated it looked.

I think you nailed it: "Was really cool first few times out, now everyone does it, its just vanilla".

Maybe they will get a way from "almost destroying the world" in EVERY ending, and put more interesting drama, twists and personal elements in to it?

I remember the OLD superman's ending... probably the biggest part was when he was crying for Lois so bad he had to turn back time and fix everything. That was more human-based than all the destruction parts and gave it REASON.

Maybe they can scale it back, mix in practical effects, and more human elements. Leaving this era era as a significant part of CGI history when everyone over did EVERYTHING to the point of mediocrity?

I dunno. CGI is fine and all, but with it milking the life out of everything, I miss the parts in movies when I used to go "ooh! OW! that looked painful! Man! THAT was amazing!" I just yawn a lot. Want to yawn LESS. Especially, at big exciting endings, that are not really exciting.

Try to convince Hollyweird to stop making them?

Won't work. People support it so much. Still, gotta be a way to make it BETTER? As I recall, most of Nolan's superhero stuff - and most of his mega-hit films, require more from the PEOPLE at the end than wiz bang effects. Even Batmans. And his films made a billion by now I bet.

I know. I was making a small joke. Hollyweird gives the people what they want, and mindless Superhero CGI is apparently what most people want. This proves that most people are idiots.

Thanks. Honesty is the best policy.

I don't think that there's better solution than even more CGI. It's not the ideal solution but it worked.

See, modern superhero movies that didn't feature big CGI fest at the end felt wrong because audience is acustomed to it and kinda expect it. It's like the "money shot" of a porn. If it didn't happen, it's unsatisfying. Eventhough that's pretty much almost the same fuckin' ending for every porn.

The current superhero movies, because of their "cinematic universes" approach, suffer from what some may call the "Dragon Ball Z syndrome."

If you haven't familiar with Dragon Ball Z, or DBZ for short, it's a manga and anime that constantly upper the stake of the threat the heroes get from the enemies, up and up and up into absurd territories.

A story about a world fighting tournament at first became a matter of destroying planets and solar system, yes SOLAR SYSTEM, using bare hands in the later episodes.

Now Black Widow, Hawkeye, Batman and Joker and other "decently powered" characters can't possibly compete in the world of Dr.Strange, Thanos and, in the future, Galactus and Silver Surfer. The stake is constantly going up and up into ridiculous levels. So, Black Widow can shoot guns and do martial arts right? Ha, let's have her fight hand to hand againts galactic celestial beings in no CGI, Van Damme vs Dolph Lundgren epic '90s style!

So there's no escape from CGI fest ending, really. The only way to not going that route is to not succumb into the DBZ syndrome in the first place. However, that kind of approach can never make a series of long lasting cinematic universe. Nolan's Batman can't even stand 3 movies. The story ended with TDK. TDKR was just a beginning of a DBZ style escalating threat mode. Oh no, Gotham City is almost destroyed (again). What next? The whole country is in danger! The entire planet! The universe!

The only way to go is up. And when that happens, the only ending is the CGI fest ending.

Very well put. I agree completely.

This isn't a REAL problem anyway - except to me, and few others - since everyone else seems content support these films all the time as they reach beyond the stratosphere with DBX syndrome. It IS what they expect. My sensitivity to it must be low because all those effects, flashy blinky lights and explosions, just leaves me numb to it and very bored... "cue the over the top jumping, fighting, action scene and GO! (yawn)... can't wait to get back to any PLOT that is going on.

Oh well. Always something on another channel... :D

JCVD in his prime could probably take Galactus 😎 ... flying roundhouse kick in slow motion ... POW!!

i think you're just bored with comics movies... maybe try some non-superhero movies for the next couple of months...

I MOSTLY watch NON-super hero movies because of this. The first Iron Man and Deadpool are the only two I enjoy.

BUT, all these repetitive super hero movies take up space, time, and money from movies that could be really amazing, but we'll never get to see them because they aren't superhero movies.

Any solution to stop super hero movies?

Since 'don't do it' is probably not going to fly, I'd say incorporate it into the actual story. I feel like just exploding things is like mandatory fireworks on holidays. Yeah they're cool, but they scare dogs and they don't feel that special because mandatory.

I think most films can solve their issues if they just prioritize story over flash. If the story requires explosions because it's integral to the story and the scene, then sure. If it doesn't, then don't add them. So I guess I still think "don't do it" is a legitimate argument lol.

wouldn't it be NICE if they did prioritize story! :D

It would be. It really would.
