TV show about an alien (solved)

I am looking for a science fiction TV-show. It is probably from the mid 90's to early 00's.
I don't remember the plot of the show, but it was about an alien that looked like a human. This man was good and helped out in different situations (he had some powers he used sometimes, but he had to be careful not to reveal that he wasn't human).

I don't remember if he was alone or if they where more, if he was stranded on earth or came for some specific reason.

The main character was played by an actor that was fairly well known for the time. I know I have seen him in other shows or movies, but not recently.

Might be Hard Time on Planet Earth (1989) - reddit thread led me to the answer but I have a vague memory of a show like that.

Unfortunately not. It is to old. I know for a fact that I saw it in 1996 or later. Generally speaking, we where up to a year behind when the shows aired in USA, so it could be a show from 1995 but not earlier.

The mind works in mysterious ways. I suddenly thought about "Sex and the City" and what do you know, the actor was in it. I was thinking about John Corbett. And the show is "The Visitor". It aired between 1997 and 1998.

It seems like I was off remembering him as being an alien. I still believe ha had some powers though:

"Adam MacArthur, who disappeared 50 years ago in the Bermuda Triangle, has returned to save humanity from destruction. Chased by the government s and aliens who abducted him, he travels across the United States to help people."
