In my opinion, yes. Nic Cage lived in San Francisco on Franklin St. I delivered groceries to his home back then from a local market. So, Mr. Cage probably knew the movie was being done through the actor's network. He had only done about 6 moives at the time, including Fast Times at R.H., and was probably enthusiastic about being in a movie with Sigourney Weaver and Helen Hunt, who were already big stars. So he asked to be an extra and it was probaly no skin off his nose to do it since he lived in the area. All speculation. If i ever run into him, I will sure ask him about it!
