I get you. I am a sci-fi painter and I always have the science part in the fiction, it is very important to me.
Here is what I would have done if they wanted that effect- the cities on Geidi Prime would have had special shades around them to block out the colours, as a way of make people depressive and all that psychological stuff.
I find it very boring.
The desert and surroundings, you can't do much with, but what about the houses, interiour, clothes, makeup? Even tribes in Sahara have colourful outfits.
That cast was memorable, anyone who watched the old Dune would remember those women! They had an elegance about them I think, which I thought lacked here. The only one I will remember was Lea, she is stunning and elegant.
