I've often thought the same thing, but truthfully -- based on my knowledge of production management -- it was probably just a case of "grab whatever nearby prop we can throw into this shot that's handy" moment. If you follow chats on these quirks, it is *amazing* how many things like this show up in most movies! It's kind of like a producer accidentally allowing a boom mike to be seen and never picking up on it. Or an actor holding a book that had never even been published at the time the movie supposedly is taking place. I've been through this many times, and it's super embarrassing....
