I think that after watching it a few times over the years, and the story of the friends that made it, make it a lot better than it was at first. I wasn't pumped about it, but I still loved it. Anything Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Ben Best churn out is always a treat. The mire I watched it, the funnier it was. The more I watched it, the more I realized that I would've thought it was even funnier if I was younger.
Yeah it's juvenile, but I think that's the point. Franco and Portman, yeah their great, but I'd take a hangout with Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Ben Best any day (rest in peace). They just have known how juvenile it was going to be, and they didn't care. Remember, we're taking about some of the smartest guys in Hollywood here. If they made a juvenile movie, it was meant to be that way. I highly doubt that it ended up being like that on accident. Danny McBride can make you feel whatever he wants with his writing. Same for Jody and Ben. If they wanted you to think it was juvenile, or wanted you to be disappointed, then that's what they had planned to do. I believe they target each and every person differently throughout all their work and that this one just happened to be more of a fart joke of a movie.
I didn't get it until I watched it a few times with a few different people. Then I got it. I hope everyone else has by now.
Looking back over a decade and everything that's happened between then and now, makes Your Highness a whole different flick. Anyone in the know has a better understanding of why this film was made now, versus 10 years ago. And I don't care how juvenile it is, it's still a good flick.
Everyone is allowed their own opinion. And that's mine. If it makes me juvenile or stupid, then so be it. I'm fine with that.
