I totally agree. Couldn't agree more. I would have to say RanchDude was right. Well said. Okay, obviously the title of the article was written first and then the author is forced to contrive crud to fit the billing. My second point would be "hownos" is the author of the article and is just posting it here to boost poor click count. I would say all of your points are valid weaknesses but I do have responses to 3 of them. I would say I also struggled with your point "Why are they singing Auld Lang Syne on Christmas Eve" I always thought they did this for universality. The level of church attendance and Christian identity in the US was very strong in 1945-1946, almost universal but not 100%. Frank Capra himself was pretty strong Catholic. My guess "Auld Lang Syne" was chosen to bring in virtually everyone. But I agree it is awkward. I always associate the song with a bunch of drunks slurring the words in dissipated revelry. "The scene from 1934 where Potter offers George a job. Potter says back during the Depression. The Depression was over in 1934?" I don't see where you are getting 1934 from that scene. It occurs right after discussion of Harry Bailey shooting down enemy aircraft, protecting US warships in WWII so no earlier than 1942? "How did Mary end up a spinster? She was attractive and popular with the guys - we can tell from the dance. <i>She also has a college degree.</i>" Where are you getting that? She was great in Cuckoo but I also loved her in Invaders from Mars. When this was on, there was no way I was going to watch it. I mean I was way too serious about music to watch ANYTHING with Shaun Cassidy in it. But when something reminded me of it recently, I thought it would be fun to check it out. Turns out I was right! It's never too late to start having fun. thanks! Funny! I don't think it would have been a good joke then but it is funny to read now! thumbs up Thank you, TJLamb. I agree they all had their flaws. To me, these are the quintessential popcorn movies. They are just so much fun, I forget all my critical thinking skills and have a little fun. Thank you! I think OP has a great idea! However, I also agree the Will Ferrell version has set things back. I would say maybe with time but it has now been 12 years. If only we could manipulate the crystals in the Sleestak Cave! As soon as I heard they were releasing the movie I knew I probably didn't want to see it. The original series for me was such a Time of Wonder that I knew nothing would ever even come close to replicating that. I know the show had a lot of unintentional humor and humor you laughed at rather than laughed with. But doing basically a spoof of the show almost seemed sacrilegious to me. I know I'm being dramatic. Please indulge an old man. Thanks for posting this. I counted one million and six. :-) Thanks! Now I can't wait to see "Atomic Submarine" ! Good point. I hadn't thought of that. The thing I noticed was it didn't seem like there was any moment where Nicholas could have put the gag on her. I mean, if I recall correctly, he simply shoved her into the sarcophagus.
