I remember that! She played on the Jeffersons years later. She played a school mate of their maid, Florence. Florence was insecure about being a made when the woman looked her up. So George and Louise decided to pretend that Florence was married to George, and Louise was their maid. In the end the truth came out, but it turned out Florence had the better life because she had people who loved her enough to do that for her, whereas her old school mate was rich, but lonely.
I also saw a Black man walking around in the background of LITB when they all went out of town for a big football game that Wally was playing in.
Issue is, some are not paying enough attention. We all know SOME people see GF as a hero. This hyper focus on those SOME, and not the entirety, is to justify what happened to him. Deflection. It also paints a negative picture of Black people at the same time, stating that they only worship criminals and no hard working Black people.
The reality is he was a victim of police violence, regardless of some seeing him as a hero, martyr or what have you.
He was no angel. We get it. His last conviction was like 12 years in the past, and he served his sentence.
If you are mad that people like GF are seen by some as a hero, look at the catalyst that caused it: Being killed, in front of the world, and yet the murderer walks free, and it took protest and such to bring an arrest.
It's a straw man argument. Candace is notorious for that. Protesters as a whole, were not claiming GF to be a hero. Maybe his daughter, and a few others, but not protesters as a whole. People were protesting the way in which he died...while a cop kneeled on his neck while he pleaded for his life, and by standers asked cop to get off his neck. Heck, lots child murder rapists (John Couey, Joseph Edward Duncan, etc.) have been taken into custody in the most gentle manner. George's past does justify him dying in that manner, despite his past.
George is/was seen more of a poster child of police brutality. Not a hero. For decades, Blacks have stated this kind of thing happens more often than thought, and primarily to Blacks, (although it does happen to others races too, but at a lower rate). So with GF, this is finally recorded, and televised for the world to see. So that is why George got all the attention he received.
Candace is quick, sharp, and savvy. She is not always factual. Those who like her are so mesmerized by how articulate she is, they don't fact check her. She mixes truth with lies and conjecture, because she knows that will get the result she is looking for. For example, saying that George held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach during a home invasion. There is no evidence she was pregnant, and Internet stories stating this have been discredited. It is easy to hobble together some pictures and fabricate things on the internet, and get people to believe it, especially if they want to believe it. Candace did the same thing regarding Ahmaud Arbery...said he was wearing Timberlands boots when he was shot, and therefore not actually jogging. This was not true either, as his autopsy report catalogued what he was wearing, and Timberlands boots were not part of his attire that day.
And Black people do praise other Blacks such as the Obamas, the Williams Sisters, Oprah, The Roots, I could go on and on. Not sure why Candace missed this.
Breakwood83...then it is the screen writer(s) you have an issue with. Not the Director. Fun fact about the director. This was one of his first films to direct. He was like 28 or 29 years old; not married and no children. The producers, and others involved in the film, had little faith in him being he was so young and different from the characters. He basically begged them to let him direct. And he did an AMAZING job, even if you are not onboard with the overall premise.
And I agree. There is no right answer. I believe this movie is one of my favorites because I can relate to the transformation.
I'm female. Started out wanting the single life, a career that would have me travel, etc. Then when I started to get a 'taste' of that kind of life, I felt it was overrated and actually logged for companionship and a family, got that, and don't regret it.
I'm 9 years late to the party. Just watched it and found it basic entertainment, like so many films. AxeMan, Geez....simmer down. I feel you half watched this because you are not correct about so many things. For at least two of the women, their husband left, them, not the other way around. One was the woman making out with her boyfriend. Her ex was already re-married . Also he had the audaucity to rent out the entire restaurant, and did not tell his ex, so he more or less embarrassed her by doing that. She baked a big beautiful cake to have it overshadowed by his antics, and he used money to manipulate her and her daughter. For the other two, the men were absent dads from the get go. You do know that in real life there are also men like that: That divorce women when the get bored or find someone younger or more attractive. Pay less than what is fair for child support and alimony. Manipulate women who've sacrificed their time to the family, and not have a career of their own, then not have something to fall back on when the man decides to leave. So you see, it goes both ways! And please....you are using less than perfect women to make an excuse for Ted Bundy! Goodness, he was a known narcissist and manipulator. He murdered a 12 year old little girl for Pete's sake.
I began the moving, because I read something about it on a News App, and that made it sound interesting. But as I watched it, it was slow moving, so it was on as back ground noise as I did things around the house. Some of the dialogue, later, had me coming back to see what was happening. I may give it another try as I fold clothes or something.

Now, I can see having a 'genetic' connection, and being like a 3rd or 4th cousin to some of these folks. But when you say cousins, the implies Julia and Diane have a parent that is a sibling of a parent of these others you listed.

I laughed out loud too when I saw your comment. Yes. Teachers can be very successful, money savvy, etc. But that house, for a single income teacher was unbelievable. I'm not a single teacher, my husband and I have relatively impressive incomes and our home is quite modest by comparison.
When I was a Kid, Pipit. But as an adult, hands down, the little boy. Because now as a Mom, I can relate to the whole thing of a kid pleading with you to do something after you say no, then reluctantly giving in. And then seeing everyone grab their kid when tragedy strikes, and yours not there. I can only imagine finding out it was your kid that perished. So that scene tugs at me every time I see it, to the point, I leave the room now.
