I'm a bit confused by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I understand suspension of disbelief, but this movie lost me not even halfway through due to dumb decision after dumb decision after dumb decision. People make mistakes, and yes it's easy to say that maybe you or I would like to believe that we'd make different decisions in the same situation, but seriously. When 2 parents are just straight up idiots who have multiple chances to stop what is happening long before the incredibly obvious inevitable happens, it's hard to care much about the end result which we all saw coming a mile away. It's also hard to believe that this has apparently happened dozens and dozens of times before. Not a single couple had even the slightest bit of intelligence or strength to protect their family from these sadists? Not a single family fought back and was able to kill their assailants? Despite being potentially the biggest serial killers in history judging by all the photos of the other families in their shed, there isn't a massive police investigation and media campaign about this? Yeah, right. If there's one thing I know for certain, it's that the media loves bad news, and serial killers on the lose who are killing "normal" white middle class families would be everywhere. Everyone would know about it. I will say, I thought the filmmaking was pretty solid for the first half. Pretty good acting and tension. But overall this is a film that will be deleted from my library and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a decent piece of misanthropic art. I found it to be both frustrating because it's kinda true but also funny because it's over the top. I thought it was like John Wick except better. No boring fluff, far superior acting talent in the lead, great sense of humor, amazing fight scenes that take their time and feel earned/meaningful, and just an overall amazing experience. Yeah. I assumed she hid the suit from when she was at his house days earlier, but that doesn't make much sense because are we supposed to believe that he didn't notice his second suit was missing? And that he wouldn't have searched the entire house to find it before she arrived for dinner? And that he was dumb enough to not be able to figure out her incredibly obvious intentions? He faked his death? They had a picture of him dead on the floor with blood all around him but it wasn't really him? WTF? Does he have cloning technology too? Of course they didn't go into any depth with that or try to explain anything because there's no way that would have made any sense. Also, does the suit give you super strength? He took out like a dozen guards, and half of them he only hit once and they were either dead or knocked out. When she puts on the suit she's able to overpower him at the dinner table and make him cut his throat. We're supposed to believe that he literally spent all night with her locked into her SECURE bedroom each night at the treatment facility? Does the suit have a filtration system or does he just sh*t his pants when he has to use the bathroom? There is no way he would use her bathroom at night because those make a lot of noise. And how was he able to enter a secure facility like that in the first place, coming and going from rooms that require security codes, badges, internal officers to unlock, etc.? And how was his brother the attorney going to simply "make it all go away?" Tons of very lazy writing there. I guess the authorities decided to leave the dog behind even after someone came and covered everything, obviously because no one was going to be living there. Dumb. The whole film would have worked better in my opinion if she was really delusional, similar to The Machinist. But the politics of today sort of overpower everything I guess. LOL So many reviewers and folks in movie forums keep calling Thanos "sociopathic" and/or "psychotic." As someone who has a master's degree in clinical psychology and 5+ years of field experience, I just can't help but briefly explore these assertions. First, there is no real evidence to support a diagnosis of sociopathy, aka antisocial personality disorder. A key characteristic of this disorder is a disconnect from others and/or an inability to experience empathy. This was absolutely not true of Thanos. If it were true, he wouldn't have been able to obtain the soul stone, which required a sacrifice of that which he loved, and it brought him genuine anguish to make that sacrifice. He also displayed empathy and respect toward others multiple times throughout the film and demonstrated a relatively significant capacity to engage in self-reflection. These are generally not common attributes of those with antisocial personality disorder. Second, I saw no real evidence to support the idea that Thanos is psychotic. No indicators of responding to intrusive internal stimuli. No evidence of hallucinations. No signs of psychosis. You could perhaps argue that he has delusional beliefs. He believes that the universe needs balance in order for life to survive. He has evidence to support this belief in the form of a bad outcome that happened on his home planet, resulting in the unnecessary loss of countless lives. So his position is grounded in lived experience and he's definitely genuinely emotionally committed to it, but the flaw is he is using a fallacy in reasoning to justify his emotional generalization (based on his singular experience, ALL outcomes in the universe will be the same unless HE does something preemptively). The problem is this is EXTREMELY common and most of us do it. Experience and emotion are very powerful motivators. There is hope for Thanos, but I think it would likely require quite a bit of therapy. #TeamThanos Agreed. I actually watched the whole thing and it was a disjointed mess. A true disgrace compared to the other 2 films. Felt like the director was just trolling the audience with a laughable parody of a true Jeepers Creepers movie. View all replies >
