While watching the movie, i didn't know Grant's character was supposed to be a teenager (which is the case in the book it was based on). Even not knowing that, it was a bit weird seeing a guy that age acting like he was a de facto teen or in his early twenties. But as we know, very few actors are stars at that young age, so they went for star power with Grant, not to mention Ethel Barrymore, who also wouldn't pass as a teenager's mother. As both were great actors, in the end you just forget those little inconsistencies and enjoy the movie, which was great by the way. If this was made nowadays, it would be much less weird seeing a 40 year old so immature as Grant's character is at the beggining of the movie. Just watched it for the first time, and I must say that although I did like it, I didn't love it. Some things work very well, the dialogue is brilliant (which is expected having been written by Neil Simon). I didn't like some of the physical comedy performed mostly by Chevy Chase, they looked silly to me. And some of Goldie Hawn's moments weren't that funny. I loved T.K. Carter's character, and the dinner scene was priceless. I would go with AJ's as well, the whole set up was a bit preposterous if you ask me, but it was kind of "funny" anyway. Pertaining the movie, overall, I liked the premise of this one more than of the first one, but I think the majority of the deaths could have been better executed. Haha! You're mostly welcome! Agreed, the epilogue was quite a let down for me as well. While they were leaving things to our imagination, it was great. But then, they started to show those people with some ridiculous make up to supposedly scare us, and at least to me, worked the other way around, it was almost laughable! I don't think he had anything to do with her son's death. As for the water burial, as you put it, to me it would just be a good way to get rid of the body, otherwise she would have a lot of explaining to do. The guy seemed to be a loner, so probably no one would know he was there with her without a body. And I believe that she just let go off trying to know who killled her son, "the gift of forgiveness". Obviously this will contain a major spoiler. One can consider the servant boy being the main "villain" of the movie as a sort of a twist. View all replies >
