It's such a great book, isn't it? I'm glad to come across a fellow Blue Castle reader. A lady where I work is a huge L.M. Montgomery fan, and even she hadn't heard of The Blue Castle until I told her it's a must read. Now, it's four years after my OP, and it still hasn't been adapted. I believe the book is in the public domain now. I'd be happy with a PBS Masterpiece Theater adaptation. Just something! Aidan Turner is probably too old now to play Barney, so I need to think about who would be perfect. I still think Anya Taylor-Joy would make a great Valancy.
I M O the High Chaparral Theme is one of the greatest Western themes ever.
Agree, but I would go as far to say it's one of the greatest TV show themes ever, of any genre. He also was given all the best lines, including most of those really smart allusions that the writers were known for and that were also prominent in Frasier. And I agree, his physical comedy skills were outstanding. Yes, it is absolute truth. I remember posting on the old IMDB boards that I knew I had to pull the plug on this one when I was more interested watching the extra showering way in the background than I was in what was being said between main characters in the foreground.
That is probably one of the BEST trailers I have ever seen for any movie....
This isn't probably one of the best trailers for any movie. It IS the best trailer for any movie ever in the history of trailers and movies. Whoever had the idea to put the Scala Choir cover of Creep with this movie is a genius. I remember seeing it back in 2010, and I got chills. The trailer was a harbinger of what this movie ended up being -- a masterpiece. That is very odd to me. I would like to know if it was her decision to leave acting. you crazy! lolol i'm betting daniel craig would probably agree with you. is that a stressless chair? It seems that Ray McKinnon was using his true speaking voice in SOA based on interviews with him I've heard. It still has a definite southern quality although somewhat toned down. His accent in The Blind Side is much more exaggerated than on SOA, but it's still the real deal. Oh yes, I agree -- The Andy Griffith Show is textbook. What you said earlier in another post about southerners speaking quickly is true and well-represented in The Andy Griffith Show. Think of Barney when he's in one of his high-strung moments. You also wrote about Hollywood's mistake in drawing out words in the southern accent. If there is a slowness at all in southern speech, it's not in the enunciation of the words. It's more a slowness with the speed of conversation--basically pauses in the back-and-forth between two people. It's an unhurried thing. The Sunday front porch conversations between Andy and Barney are proof of that. All dialect coaches should be required to listen on a 24/7/365 loop so they can better perform their jobs. ----------------------- It's now 5 hours and 51 minutes until 8:00 pm. lol I suppose it all came down to financial guarantee. It would've been a risk to cast him in a role so far removed from Barney. It seems to be more of a modern thing for actors to run the gamut of roles as BourbonKing pointed out. There was no background on Lincoln to give the idea he was southern. It's hard not to assume it though with a speaking voice like that. Good point, BourbonKing.
B- if he was dead set on craig for some reason, shoulda at the last minute rewritten the char bio to make him a 'celebrated detective from scotland yard' or something and just let craig just do his regular accent.
I agree 100%. This would've been a superb decision to make. Sigh. Great post, LTUM. I agree that Ray McKinnon's accent in SOA was great. In fact, I have to say Lincoln was my favorite character on the show (yes, even over Jax). To add to your great list, I always enjoy listening to Tommy Lee Jones. I'll tack on our old friend Robert Duvall too. I agree, and it's an amazing price -- just $12.00 for five movies! I bought The Love God today at Wal Mart as part of a set of Don Knott movies. There are five movies on three DVDs in the collection -- The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Reluctant Astronaut, The Shakiest Gun in the West, The Love God, and How to Frame a Figg. Excellent, excellent quote, LTUM, and so true. I have a friend who would love this. Thanks for sharing. :) I'm replying to this post because of its age. It was posted on IMDb 17 years ago which I find cool. I'm also replying to this post because it demonstrates the stupidity of IMDb for destroying all of the primary sources for various movies and shows.
