I will be the first to toss confetti in the air. I'll even apologize to Dabb for my Twitter rants. :P
I actually agree with all of your thinking on where Dean is at, I honestly do. Sadly, I just think that's our perspective as fans of this character, our knowledge of who he is. I'm not giving the writers or Dabb that much credit at this point. I simply don't believe they will let Dean have any kind of payoff for all he's taken this season. I want to be wrong, more than anything. Hopefully you all will let me know when it's over, and I'll happily eat crow.
I don't have words to adequately express how much I hate this season. What they are doing with Dean is unforgivable. I'm frankly surprised that Jensen hasn't rebelled by now. I'm hoping that his radio silence about any actual show things is speaking for him.
I have never, in 40+ years of watching television, actively wished someone fired, but I want Dabb gone in the worst way. With any luck, this Wayward Daughter spin-off rumor is reality and he'll go off and play with them. The trouble is, I don't think there's anybody behind the scenes who actually gives a shit about Dean Winchester or his fans.
The hypocrisy of Sam's speech, 'We leave the world a better place' is so maddening, I couldn't even enjoy the initial-carving melodrama. Hey Sam, remember when you told Dean he was a piece of shit who was wrong for thinking he was doing more good? Grrrr.
I don't like feeling so angry over a tv show, it's ridiculous. So I'm done watching this season live. Maybe I'll watch the rest of the episodes after it's over.
"One of the biggest problems I see and I know this is something that other just don't bother with is that the big “influences” outside i.e. Fangasm, SuperWiki, podcasts between them etc all are full of praise because, in my opinion they are too invested in the people that are involved e.g. the actress that plays Mary etc and the writers …............ I just can't see how they can be critical of bad writing and bad acting and bad creative choices when they are far too deeply invested and close to the people they are supposedly doing critical evaluation on."
Ding ding ding!! I am so glad to see somebody put this out there. It's been my feeling all season. So much smoke being blown up Dabb & Company's butts that they may well believe all is well. I sincerely hope they aren't so needy that they are unwilling to look beyond the almost-sycophantic praise they get from these people. They are, sadly, the only ones I see them responding to, so I am not holding out much hope.
We got a glimpse of Dean with a gun in the opening seconds, and then... he's driving the car. Again. Given the way this season is going, I have zero faith that Mary's betrayal and then both her and Sam keeping the Colt secret from Dean will be addressed in any satisfying way. Heck, maybe we're supposed to assume that he already knows, having been told 'off screen'. Sam brought up the Alpha Vamp being dead thanks to Her Majesty's Secret Suckbags - are we to believe that Dean never asked how they managed that? Doesn't seem reasonable. Therefore it follows that they either lied about it, or told him the truth and it's NBD. Hey, Mom was only willing to let us die to get, no biggie.
He really does love it, which makes his/Dean's IMO shoddy treatment of late even more of a crime. Dean is the most interesting character, and Jensen is arguably the best actor they have, and seeing all that go to waste is both frustrating and disappointing. Looking at this week's preview pics doesn't give me much hope that things are changing any time soon. I see Sam & all the secondary characters in action scenes and Dean.... driving the car. Again.
Thank you for the heads up and the welcome! (I love confetti ::)
I have this nagging feeling that Mick/BMoL are going to end up saving the day, forcing Dean to either apologize or thank them, and I just. do. no. want. that. Being a Glynn episode gives me a little hope, but Dabb's overall treatment of Dean this season dashes it all over again. I guess we'll know soon enough.
Of the new writers, Meredith seems to have the best handle on Dean. His delight at simple things like a '3 star hotel' and fresh towels... adorable and heart-breaking at the same time. I hope she resisted the urge to make him a clumsy dork (a la antique shop in the Hitler ep) but otherwise, she's shown the most promise.
