Fully agreed! The fight scene was horrible. I so wish they had used the scene from the books!
They DID have the idea! Harry wanted to interfere, but Hermoine stopped him.
That's only in the movie. Mr Weasley repairs Harry's glasses in the book. Besides, the trace on under-age wizards can only detect magic, not who did it, which is why Harry got blamed for Dobby's magic. The Ministry relies on the parents to monitor magic use in their children, in all-wizard households.
The students are also still allowed magic on the Hogwarts Express train.
The lumos spell that Harry uses in the beginning of the 3rd movie was a continuity error of the movie. It is not in the books and Harry wouldn't have been allowed to do the spell at home.
Hermoine as a furry face, went to Madame Pomfrey, who is used to students doing "illegal" stuff and having to have it fixed. She keeps the students confidentiality. Sure the teachers would know that Hermoine was "sick" but that would be all. Madame Pomfrey even orders Dumbledore around.
Yes, that is right. Harry is also struck at one stage, in OOTP I think, by the fact that Petunia is his actually mother's sister.
One point that I noticed in the first book while rereading the other day, is that Vernon and Petunia laugh at Harry about platform 9 and 3 quarters. Yet Petunia did know about the platform (she was there to see Lily off the first time) and that it existed, so I can only conclude that she was pretending to Vernon to spite Harry.
Exactly! Petunia was jealous of Lily and bitter. She alluded once that her parents thought Lily was "perfect" and was obviously the favourite sister. So not only was Petunia jealous of Lily being a witch, she was also jealous of her being the favourite daughter.
In a way I can empathise with Petunia. I would have been jealous as hell if I were her and my sister could do magic and I couldn't! It was wrong of course to take it out on Harry, but I understand where Petunia is coming from.
Dumbledore extracted a promise from Petunia, and she also knew that staying with them was the thing that kept Harry safe (i.e. the blood magic).
Interesting question! I don't know how or when wizards started using plumbing. They may have invented it long before Muggles did, and just didn't share it with the Muggle world. Hmmm.....
Gryffindor did do good work and earned many points. They were in the lead with points when Malfoy's dirty little trick caused Harry, Neville and Hermoine to lose 150 points, putting them in last place.
Well they did learn and most teachers were strict but competent and liked the children.
What I don't understand, is how teachers like Snape get away with bullying and insulting the children like that. Why doesn't the headmaster Dumbledore step and reprimand him or something?
Huh? You are confusing the 5th movie with the 6th movie...
They are a bit better in the books, but I still feel that Harry marrying Ginny is just wish fulfilment i.e. him wanting a family and wanting to be a part of his favourite family (the Weasleys).
In the movies it was terrible. An even worse scene is where she ties his laces! I mean seriously?!
