So happy Casey got the Oscar. View all posts >

I hated Dunkirk & loved 1917. Not to say you would. Individuals are unrelated to the Oscars though.. I don't know if the Oscars themselves work with charities? It still doesn't alter the money spent on the Oscars themselves though (or indeed, in Hollywood on many a [sometimes terrible] movie, I guess!) I think the Oscars are a load of pants - think how much money is spent on them. Tonight there will be loads of speeches about causes, however if they'd cancelled the Oscars and used the money spent (not just on them but on all that campaigning) for causes, imagine the good that could be done! And, like the hypocrite I am... whenever (not that often) stuff I absolutely adore might or does win, I'm then like WOOHOO - The Oscars!!! The best! haha! Not really. I don't take them too seriously still, but I admit it is really nice if something I love wins and I do hope for an Oscar for things I love. Also, the meaning is diminished - if one year you thought a terrible film won an Oscar, if another year the one you feel deserved won it is hard to feel it has much power even though you're happy. hee. I mean, congratulations to her - wonderful in Fences... but... seriously.... "Thank god I became an artist because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life." Oooooookaaaayyyyy!!!! Did Viola Davis just say being an actor is the most worthy/best job in the world....? Thank you. :) BEST PICTURE Arrival Fences Hacksaw Ridge La La Land Moonlight Manchester by the Sea ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) Ryan Gosling (La La Land) Denzel Washington (Fences) ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals) ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE Emma Stone (La La Land) Natalie Portman (Jackie) ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE Viola Davis (Fences) Naomie Harris (Moonlight) Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) BEST DIRECTOR Damien Chazelle (La La Land) Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge) Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea) Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) ANIMATED FEATURE FILM None! Anyone know what kind of time the big awards are normally presented? I'm in the UK and can't stay up all night as I am working tomorrow but am wondering whether to try to waken for the big awards live.... View all replies >
