A horrific view of society

I enjoyed this film especially the performance from Rosamund Pike. She proves that she can convincingly play a totally ruthless con woman . I like the way she fought back against her enemies.

However, I must admit that I hope that this film is not based on a true story. It paints a horrible view of a society that allows people like Marla Grayson to exist. People who can manipulate a flawed system so that they can milk elderly patients of their money. It is a frightening thought.

I actually looked it up and it is indeed true that a court can appoint a legal guardian without the ward ever being contacted or present for the hearing:

It's horrifying - make sure you have a will and a living revocable trust.

I am keenly aware that society is horrible, Friend.

I was referring to a system that allows people like Marla Grayson to operate and flourish with no oversight or checks.

Not looking for a cyber spat.

I don't think society is horrible. There is both good and bad in it.

If it is horrible, then you only have yourself to blame because you, your family, your unit, your village, your people have made it the way it is. We are all connected and like it or not, we all contribute to the way society is. If it is horrible as you say. Then do your part to change it. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Pike is a good actress but did they make her look somewhat unattractive here physically? She aged 15 years in this film.

I don't think it's a true story but promotes this view of society though. It seems to promote malice and evil for temporary personal gain.
