I'm confused about something, someone help me ...

I am just re-watching this movie on NetFlix.

At about 6:30 minutes into the movie the character Melvin, played by Isiah Whitlock Jr., pulls out a picture of his 18 year old son and passes around bragging about it.

OK, I may be blind or racist, but isn't that David played by Jonathon Majors who turns out to be the son of Paul played by Delroy Lindo?

Am I just not seeing that photo right, or I missed something in the movie, or what?

OK, I just noticed 10 minutes before the end of the movie a check comes for Melvin's wife and son, so that man is the one pictured in the photograph. So, I got it, but those two look similar to me when flashed on the screen just for seconds.

Good for you. The film really does warrant multiple viewings.

I think he more precisely pulls his phone out of his pocket and scrolls through the photos to find a picture of his wife Cissy and his son Melvin Jr.

No the person in the photo is Pernell Edwards and he has a small speaking part at the end of film with the actress who plays his mother. I'll leave you to the challenge of figuring out your internal struggle of blindness 😎 versus racism.πŸ‘¨πŸΏ

You are seeing the photo wrong. Not sure how that is done. Do you require glasses? Yes you missed the differences in the two characters in the movie and the scene at the end of the film.

I have no response for the, "what".

Melvin specifically says he has an 18 year old son. I mean, ask yourself the question as to why the writer or director would want to spuriously put the picture of another man's son in the picture that man is passing around of his wife, without any comment or explanation of the man in the picture?

Whoever it is, he resembles David in his facial shape, the facial hair, the hair on his head and the very broad bridge of his nose. Anyway it confused me, and I'm just trying to forestall the inevitable stupid comments about racism.

The point is that we see this picture - a new face, as viewers do we pay attention to it or not, it this person important, and what kind of image do we get of him - only later do we know there is David, Paul's son ... it's just confusing.

Sounded like a response to me. ;-)
