Anyone Actually Seen It?

I will NEVER watch this.

Not because I'm boycotting it or anything. But just because it's not my cup of tea.

Remember when the Oscars were glamorous and sexy and aspirational and beautiful?

I saw it. It is a good movie. But it is nothing special. With the exception of Frances McDormand and David Strathairn, every other performance went from mediocre to bad. They should’ve used real actors.

It’s an interesting exploration of a way of life, but there are many ways to do it better.

Saw it yesterday. There were a few interesting scenes, particularly early on. But as the movie dragged on, I began to realize it had very little plot, it was extremely predictable. Frankly it was just down right depressing and at times gross. Francis McDermott did a very good job playing the lead role, so I have to give her credit. I guess depressing and gross was what she was going for, so she got it.

By the end, the only thing I could think of for the main character was what is she going to do when she's too old to work? I guarantee she'll take that room at her sister's house when she reaches that point.

What you said echoes my sentiments. I love Frances Mcdormand and rented the movie because of her. I have always assumed I could watch a great actor reading a dictionary. This movie proved me so wrong. The idea was good; but it needed more compelling characters and a kind of quirky energy to make it worthwhile. It came off as a very tired, sadly cliched documentary.

Not many movies better Than Nomadland from 2020 imo
Can you name any great films from the year of Covid?

WW84

Surely you jest?

reply

it was a poor year for movies, but 'the father' was nominated, too, and is arguably the better film (it also has a 0.8 higher rating on imdb).

also 'the sound of metal'...

Greenland. It was awesome

I watched it last night. I thought it's a pretty good movie.

reply

I've seen it. Great film.

reply

I've seen it. I'd say it is a thinking movie, an important movie, but not sure I could say it was a great film. It was hard to watch and no real heroes or protagonist in a normal sense. For me it was hard to watch, and I was not really sure just what exactly it was trying to say.

reply

I'll bet most of the academy voters who voted for it never saw it. I've heard many times they don't usually watch them.

Watching it on Disney +. Not too bad.

reply

Yes, it was boring. You won't miss much. There are thousands of better movies out there.
