this reminded me a lot of the movie Split

And not just because Anya Taylor-Joy was in it.

Like in Split her character has been kidnapped along with a group of people but she doesn't belong there. In Split, Kevin took the other 2 girls because of an incident with them at the zoo and he only took Casey because she happened to be in the car with them. In The Menu, Tyler only brought her to the island because the woman he originally wanted to take broke up with him. Slowik didn't intend for Margot to be there.

In both movies the kidnapper only wants to punish powerful or privileged people without harming those who are unprivileged. In Split, the Beast kills the other 2 girls but refrains from killing Casey once he sees the scars on her body from her uncle's sexual abuse. He spares her because this suffering she went through made her pure in his view. In The Menu, Slowik has brought rich and privileged people to his island in order to kill them. He gives Margot a way out because he did not intend for her to be there and he realizes that she works in the service industry just like he does. He didn't intend for Felicity, the actor's assistant, to be there either but decides she will die once he finds out that she went to an Ivy League university without student loans. He is committed to killing the wealthy and privileged.
