The best horror movie of the 2020s thus far and one of the best of all time.
David Bruckner (the director) is one to watch. His short 'Amateur Night' in V/H/S (2012) was great, The Ritual (2017) was great, this was outstanding, Hellraiser (2022) was a bit of a let down... I'm considering rewatching it as I probably had my hopes up too high, still this movie benefitted greatly from Rebecca Hall. It's not everyday a low budget horror movie gets such a talented lead who delivers such a strong performance. It'll be hard to top this.
I think what impresses me most about Bruckner is his ability to deliver on the scare factor. 'Amatuer Night', The Ritual and The Night House did it so well. A lot of horror directors can't do it to save their lives as hard as they may try.
For example Ti West is a solid horror director but the only movie he's made that had any notable tension was The House of the Devil (2009), I liked X (2022) & Pearl (2022) but they're devoid of scares. James Wan is the only currently active horror director who has as strong a track record when it comes to making a movie actually tense and frightening... which is kind of sad because Bruckner has only made a few movies but I'm a seasoned horror viewer and I'm pretty scare resistant I guess so making more than one scary movie is note worthy.
