why are they releasing three in the same year?

??

Why not?

usually you want a period of time between sequel/prequels. it builds interest. i guess this is the new world of streaming.

reply

I think it is to generate interest and publicity. If they waited months or years, people might lose interest. It sounds like the strategy worked well. Here's an article about it:

reply

i don't think a "normal" studio would do this.

reply

Probably not, but the strategy and the films suited Netflix. I wouldn't be surprised if they do more things like this in the future.

It's kind of like releasing entire seasons all at once. At first we were only used to one episode per week with conventional tv. Looks like they're adapting that strategy to movies with releasing an entire trilogy in only three weeks.

Sitting on your sofa, opening Netflix and selecting a movie is quick and easy. It's not an happening anymore, like when movies where only in theaters and it build up the heat around it. That's gone now with instant access available at any time.

I found that strange too at first but then I thought about the same thing as you. Maybe it's low season right now and they are experimenting. They create an immediate interest and beat the hell out of that iron while it's still hot.

reply

Binge watching TV shows has become the new norm. Apparently, now we're supposed to start binge watching movie trilogies.

reply

seems so

reply

I guess it also eliminates the chance of a small amount of fans unfortunately dying between the release of the first and last film.

reply

What?? I don’t think this is a reason why they don’t this..

reply

I'm glad they did. If I had had to wait a year between part 1 and 2 I never would have given 2 a chance.

reply

what order are you suppose to watch threm?

reply

1994 is part one
1978 is part two
1666 is part three

reply

Considering how they all look like TV movies, this was the best strategy for their release. I very much doubt the trilogy would have been as well-received if it had a traditional release in movie theaters.

reply

To generate interest and gain viewership. A trilogy with hardly any known faces would have died if they stretched it to 3 years. For me, it worked. A week between 2 films was just perfect.
