Watch the TV Show instead

It's based on a novel which I haven't read. I've watched both seasons of the TV show and am looking forward to the next season.

The movie is so so. It obviously can't fit in all the plot. Aside from that, virtually the entire cast is actually inferior to the TV show. The martial sister reprises her role in the movie from the TV show but everyone else is worse looking and less charismatic other than the the wife of the master.

Due to time constraints, the relationship building isn't there and where it is, it is mostly bad chemistry.

Some of the backstory is hard to grasp if you haven't got prior knowledge as they didn't convey it well. They have points included but you dunno why it is even relevant as it is never referred to again anyway.

So give this a miss and watch the TV show but it is super long.

I quite like it. It's short and not taking itself too seriously. I hate longwinded filler-heavy tv shows with too much drama. This movie is fast and straight to the point. Plot was clear and the acting was adequate.

My complain was just that the production value was quite low for a full-blown movie. It looked tv show-ish sometimes. CGI was also inconsistent, most of the time it looks decent, but a few scenes have janky effects (the red lightning power for example, looked really bad, like 90s tv show bad.)

Fighting scenes feels disjointed thanks to questionable editing. It's like the director didn't know how to do action scenes so he just shot some cool moves and threw them to the editor to work it out. There's no flow to the fights, just some random clips put together as if it was a movie trailer instead of a real movie.
