What is the meaning of the title "Dead Reckoning"?

From the Cambridge Dictionary about "Dead Reckoning":

a way of calculating the position of a ship or aircraft using only information about the direction and distance it has travelled from a known point.

What? The meaning had nothing to do with the plot. Why use the words in the title?

Haven't seen it since it's release, but isn't everyone on the hunt for a set of keys to tap into a unique AI cybersecurity threat in the form of a prototype on a submarine that was torpedoed and sunk... somewhere? The subtitle seems to play into that to a certain extent, and as a bonus, it sounds fvckin' cool for a spy movie.

Yes, that was the plot, but it had nothing to do with the word "Dead Reckoning".

It’s most definitely a seamanship term, and the location of the sunken sub is being traced. It’s not used literally, but figuratively, because it’s a hip/cool spy title with potential for double entendre.
