Kinda trippy

i. First, a thumbs down for the fact that I couldn't get this work on either my Smart LGTV or my Android tablet. Both were apparently too old. I had to fire up my even more ancient Playstation 3(!) to get this to work.

ii. Anyone recognize Will Poulter (Colin) from We're the Millers? I had no clue he was British as he was so effective as the American doofus 'son' in that comedy.

iii. The storyline isn't linear (duh!) which also makes it hard to review. The meta-references though were thought-provoking... We -- the viewers -- are part of the story and we're controlling it...

Or are we?

Remember the bit where he's talking to the shrink about finishing the game? He tells her that he simplified the game by reducing the number of choices, but making it seem like the player was still under the impression they were directing the game.

At that point my head nearly exploded because that's what this movie is. It was just giving us the *illusion* of choice but, you soon discover that sometimes either choice leads to the same result, or you are forced to go back to an earlier point and pick the other option.

So, who was really in control? Us... or the makers of the movie?

iv. And iii. above turns out the be the biggest weakness of the movie too. The whole bit about 'not having as many choices as we think we do' goes against the argument that this form of entertainment has merit.

There's talk of Netflix making more of these, but I wouldn't have much interest in watching a diet of these choose-your-own adventure movies. I become more caught up in the process and less on the story itself.

I recognized Will Poulter from We’re The Millers movie right away. He’s got a very memorable face. Yeah, had no idea he was British too. I liked his PACMAN explanation when he was high, it totally made sense! Lol, and I wasn’t even high.

I liked the movie quite a lot. It continued well in Black Mirror’s production values with music, look and ideas. It was like a pandora’s box, a bit of a puzzle on how to get to the end making the right choices. It worked for me, but I can see how it can be a little frustrating for some other viewers with making wrong choices and getting in that loop.

Overall good, original movie.
