why did they think they could easily take scarlet witch....

because they went out like bitches.. did Xavier do all the heavy lifting vs Thanos???

reply

Egos? People without a lot of egos would not have formed Illuminati and think they could determine the fate of their universe.

reply

I mean the avengers did the same. yet even they were cautious of threats. they weren't like "ohh for sure we can defeat Thanos"

reply

The avengers were organized by government, Illuminati is clearly not.

reply

they were at first and had no oversight (at first) but I dont see how this means they would have egos but the avengers not. I mean Tony clearly did.

reply

The avengers did not think they could determine the fate of their universe. Their goals were much smaller: protect the earth.

2 of them were government agents, one was a soldier. Thor protects 9 realms, the earth is a part of it, so he was in it mostly because it was convenient. Hulk was in it because he did not have much choice, either that or prison cell or autopsy table.

Dr Strange and Iron man were the only 2 with a lot of egos. Dr Strange basically thinks the avengers are a bunch of idiots useful at times. Iron man thinks they should all follow his lead.

Anyway, the dynamic is different. Only 2 think they are entitled to decide the fate of humanity.

I'll play Devil's Advocate for the terrible screenplay: the Illuminati underestimated the huge difference in power levels / abilities between the Wanda from their own dimension and the Scarlet Witch (using the Darkhold) from Earth-616.

Mr. Fantastic had no idea that the Scarlet Witch could transmute his and Black Bolt's flesh, Captain Marvel didn't know Wanda could drain her cosmic energy powers in battle and Xavier was totally unprepared for a lethal psychic counterattack once he had entered Wanda's mind.

If the Illuminati had been aware how outmatched they were, they either would have kept their distance or struck Wanda down immediately, without giving her a chance to surrender.

reply

fair. I felt like they wasted those characters. John Krasinski made a supriingly good Reid Richards

reply

Mr. Fantastic had no idea that the Scarlet Witch could transmute flesh

They did not know Wanda could alter reality at will. If they knew that they would have thrown everything they got at her as soon as they saw her.

reply

her powers seemed similar to Thanos with the stones. thats why I was curious why they didnt use maximum caution. did Xavier do all the heavy lifting vs Thanos?

reply

I think Wanda's power is very similar to those of reality stone. So scarlet witch ruling over entire multiverse I think is a bit of exaggeration.

reply

Except, one of them was Charles Xavier. It's completely absurd that Xavier wouldn't have read Strange's mind to instantly understand the threat he was warning them of. It's absurd that none of the other Illuminati would have thought to utilize Xavier to understand it either.

reply

That is true, Xavier's power is perfect for interrogation, it does not make sense they did not use it. I think you just found a plot hole.
