Theaters first - Finally

They finally listened to my bitched moaning of doing same day release with streaming. That'll at least drive more profits early on rather than pirates. Glad they made this decision. 45 days isn't that long though so unless they plan on releasing the bluray around the same amount of days after it hits streaming, it should be averaged out. At least it'll give me reason to give them my hard earned free cash rather than just them giving me more free stuff.

very interested to see how it does. I'm guessing 400-500m worldwide will make Disney happy.

People are trying to compare it to Black Panther but I don't think it'll reach that high. It will be a Marvel first Asian film though.

Lol... Those days are gone.

It's a monumentally bad idea, as another and worse pandemic surge is working into its stride right now. It's predicted to be at its deadly height this fall, and FYI my job puts me in contact with the local critical care network and I'm seeing the unvaccinated dying like flies.

Tough shit of some actors are angry because streaming releases mean they make a few million less, as long as the pandemic lasts releasing films on streaming is the *right* thing to do.

Well, if the variants keep going like this every year with a new one, I think theaters are more or less done for with the low profits they bring in compared to pre-pandemic that is. Literally half to less than half of the earnings. In my theater, any new movie usually only has a at most 5-10 people of a 150+ seating arrangement. That's just horrible and not sustainable in the long run (unless they sell streaming services as well).

I kinda do like it this way though personally since I still remember the old days of packed theaters with too many people yapping away, people kicking the back of your seat randomly, people talking during the movie, people looking at their phones during the movie, etc.

Yeah... 'Some' actors unless you're Emma Stone. Apparently highest paid streaming actress with a whooping $50m somehow? Wut? Even RDJ only mad that much with Iron Man stuff if I recall. I guess they pay women just as much starting now.

It's horrible, I love movie theaters... but I'm not going to risk my life or urge anyone else to risk theirs to keep them in business. All I can do is hope that movie theaters will come back, when this is all over, and that Hollywood will take steps to bring back the theaters instead of just moving to streaming.

But seriously, don't fuck with the Delta Variant, that shit is nasty! And if you're unvaccinated it's deadly, so still wash your goddamn hands, wear a face mask in public, avoid crowds, and be safe. People are dying, don't be one of them.

reply

I am curious to see how it plays out.

reply

Streaming is great as it will make the movie become generally available almost immediately.

reply

Not good for profits though. It just means people can gossip about it without having to pay for it.

reply

We'll just have to find a way to live with that.

Free Guy did better than The SS during the Delta Death. WB screwed up by making SS "free".

I also attribute FG doing well because of the 'influencer' cameos that also drove the mindless fans to go pay for it. Those influencers make $10's of millions just playing games all day and having a personality that people somehow like or if you're a girl streamer, a thot or horny simps.

It is no surprise to me Disney no longer cares about public safety. It is however a surprise there are people support it.
