The Mandarin looks very... inoffensive.

I'm aware that the Mandarin was originally a gross racial stereotype and the movies have danced around how to adapt him without offending anyone (particularly the Chinese market that Marvel relies heavily upon), but the interviews with the director give me the impression that he's been watered down into nothingness.

This is Iron Man's arch-enemy and one of the biggest villains in the Marvel comic book universe. I don't really need to know about his capacity for love.

I agree. But because of his being Chinese and being a dictator of the region his lives in, they can't do him at all like the comics. Might as well not do him at all imo.

That's why I loved the Ben Kingsley version so much in IM3. It seemed like a pastiche of a Yellow Peril kind of villain but still intimidating. But then they ruined it for that stupid twist and saying Guy Pearce was the 'real' Mandarin.
