Does it ever explain why that one character constantly has blood all over his face?

I kept thinking, "Why doesn't he wipe that off?" Did they not have mirrors or any reflective surfaces in 1899? Or why didn't someone say, "Hey dude you have some blood on your cheek."

My sister has watched this entire series and when I asked her about this character she said she never noticed any with blood on their face. It really jumped out at me. I couldn't unsee it.

Didn't he just acquire it during the fight with the black guy? Pretty sure he didn't have it before that...

Edit: Just checked. He is marked with bruise (/ maybe birth mark?) above right eye before and maybe it's a scar, again on right side, but he's definitely worse after the fight.

Maybe the initial marks are supposed to be residual from previous run throughs of the simulation?
