Is this REALLY as GOOD as they say?

Aside from Rogue One and Mandalorian, I've been burnt so often by Disney Star Wars that I truly believe they can do no good, but despite lack of interest, this Rogue One spin-off is truly being heralded as a return to the good old days of Star Wars, even critics like the Critical Drinker are singing its praises, as are tons of positive reviews everywhere!

From what I've seen of it, it does look gorgeous, but is it worth my time? I'm extremely wary of signing onto Disney+ once again.

BTW, I thought Rogue One was brilliant, since I love everything to do with the Death Star.

reply

nah not for you this one, its for die hard star wars fans not casuals

reply

I AM a die-hard Star Wars fan, I just don't accept SHIT like the Sequel Trilogy, Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

reply

yeh so die hard your asking people if you should watch andor and if its worth your time lol

reply

I said in my OP I've been burnt enough times already. Boba Fett was SHIT. Kenobi was SHIT. But Andor looks... COOL.

reply

then you are not die hard, a die hard would watch regardless if its good average or shit, carry on casual.

reply

In that case, a "die hard" has no taste and concept of quality, which makes their opinion pointless.

reply

a huge fan of star wars wont judge something before watching it, they will watch it and then form judgement at the end, hence why you are in this predicament, " should i watch Andor, i hear its good" not the words of a die hard.

reply

Harsh but true!

reply

Andor is like a BBC/HBO Co-production. A spy and espionage drama set in the SW universe, reminiscent of John Le Carré. But with a sociological eye and novelistic TV approach that's familiar to people who enjoyed The Wire.

It does not require you to be steeped in Star Wars to appreciate the human drama. But experience of SW inevitably enhances it and vice versa.

It wipes its arse with Rogue One, which is still an OK movie, in my opinion.

reply

"Andor is like a BBC/HBO Co-production." So in other words its pretentious and boring.

reply

No. I'm other words, it's not made for mewling nincompoops with five second attention spans who need to be spoon fed what's happening when things aren't blowing up.

reply

Im dumb. Or your just a dull person. Sorry, But This is not Schindler's List, Citizen Kane, 12 Angry Men, and Shawshank Redemption. Your probably the same person that thinks Game of Thrones is better than Lord of the Rings. Because there more scene of people sitting around in rooms talking.

reply

Wow. I thought it was physically impossible for anyone to write a post that was more than 100% strawman.

reply

No

reply

You seem to be in the minority in this case.

reply

I'm biased. I despise anything Disney related

reply

I'm also squarely in that camp.

To its credit I will say this, I found it to be a competent, if largely unremarkable show... but if it wasn't for the eventual TIE Fighter or R2 droid putting in an appearance to remind you, you'd probably not even remember you're supposed to be watching something even remotely related to Star Wars.

reply

Apart from Storm Troopers just about everywhere and those space ship thingies. No clue.

reply

After Episode 3, half of every episode takes place on Coruscant. What do you mean you can't tell it's Star Wars?

reply

In the Prequels, Coruscant seem a lot more lively. Everyone feel like there asleep in this show.

reply

There aren't any battles taking place on Coruscant, but there is a lot going on.

There is plenty of action in this series, so I can't agree that is seems like everyone is asleep. I will agree that there are parts where it's more about the conversations and figuring who's doing what. But I didn't find it to be boring at all.

reply

To be Fair the Majority didn't even watch it. Going off its super low viewership.

reply

Yes, it’s really good! It’s very character and plot driven. It’s also a bit of a slow build. I thought the first 2 episodes were good, but wow did it takeoff after that!

reply

I liked it, as well as Rogue One, I think that if you liked the film, there is a good chance that you will enjoy this series.

reply

It's really well done. It's a tense, dramatic, grim, perfectly realize story of how people from all levels of society were driven to Rebel. But that said... I didn't like it! That's because I work in the Helping Professions, and if I want to see anything grim and suspenseful, all I have to do is go to work, so "Andor" isn't to my taste ("The Mandalorian" is).

So if you want a Star Wars series that's unrelieved by humor or lightness, and which doesn't even have much action, then it's a perfect show! It's like they made a Star Wars show for DC fans...

reply

Don't know if you've watched it yet, but it is good. Finishes much better than it starts. I did not like Rogue One at all, though. I think Andor is written much better, has better characters, and is for a more mature Star Wars audience.

reply

I think it's great and well done. I haven't seen the other SW shows, but I loved Rogue One and heavily disliked the sequels so I think you should give it a try.
