Loved the film.
After they laid down together , were the two killed by the young guy with the rifle?
Did the skulls or skeletons have any signs of shot gun wounds?
I think the Chinese guy realised he would not have enjoyed their “ earnings “ had he left Cookie behind to die/ get caught.

I assumed they both died from their injuries and stress
Most likely Cookie died from the blow to his head and King Lu was shot dead while he was sleeping next to Cookie.
That said, I prefer to think Cookie died due to the blow to his head and Lu from fatigue rather than ending up being tracked down and shot dead.
I love how the film started of finding the skeletons and then went back to tell who they were and why they finished up in the forest.
I'm not familiar with Kelly Reichardt's movies. I will checkout her imdb page. I saw this film cause it was free on you tube .

Kelly Reichardt never made a bad film but Night Moves is my favorite with First Cow at #2
