Will this film be "woke"?

Thoughts?

It's Ridley Scott, of course it will be.

"Denzel Washington as a former slave-turned-wealthy arms and commodity dealer with a grudge against the emperors."

Ain't that hilarious.

It's only woke if you consciously choose to view it as woke. Just like it's only racist if you consciously choose to view it as racist.

The first one was more of a historical fantasy than anything else. I doubt this one will be any more accurate.

Yes, it will have gay Romans in it.

GOD I HOPE SO....NOTHING WORSE THAN A BUNCH OF WHITE GUYS IN SKIRTS.

Rowdy Roddy Piper says "Hold my Beer" 😎 Oh, he wore a Kilt

I'd say there's a 75/25 chance of this being somewhat Woke, but I just question why they're even making this?? I pretty much thought GLADIATOR was a one and done and move on to the next project type of thing??

The question here is what would make it "woke"? The movie already had a diverse cast in the original so having a diverse cast would not be considered woke. So how do we wokify this thing and piss everybody off? My guess — gays — and maybe a sprinkling of feminism. I don't think they'll go as far as doing a Girl Boss, but it wouldn't surprise me. No matter how bad you think the Wokes are they can always get worse and more absurd.

Little minds think everything is “woke” today. The term woke is cringey and it means people were sleeping all along and just awoke to what is happening around them. So in reality it should be people of the right wing who are “woke” because they supposedly are waking up to some undesired change.

Somehow now it’s used like some sort of a slur or to reflect status of society in a specific way such as changing what once was (specifically white casting made diverse) and to score some cheap political points.

And frankly only those of lower intelligence might be using it.

If you’re using it to mean it has diverse casting well then yes. So did the original was “woke” then. And the casting shouldn’t matter if the focus is the story.

E.g. Heimdall was black in Thor movies but it had 0 bearing on the story and made 0 attention to it. He simply was an actor who did the job well.

While it is true that some established things are being changed, it doesn’t meant everything with a specific cast is “woke” and asking such a question makes one appear foolish and not to be taken seriously.
