It wasn't woked out, so it was a joy to watch.

Way off the mark with regards to the novel, but still a joy to watch because of the complete absence of woke.

I actually had the same feeling. It was just an old-fashioned period rom-com about men and women falling in love with each other. No weird shit. How refreshing.
