Beautiful to look at but..
.. can’t hold a candle to the 1996 version. The characters are so odd and awkward in this version. All the charm of Emma, faults and all, is never brought out.

shareI can't agree with you. The first half is a little difficult to get handle on, because the plot is opaque and there are a lot of names thrown around, but it comes together in the back half. I literally laughed and I cried.
I found it to be a delightful film with an excellent cast. Anya Taylor-Joy's performance is wonderful and quite charming.
