Why was the stowaway there?
Was this ever explained? How did he end up in the ceiling?
shareWhen they were questioning him in the beginning he said he was arming something for the launch. He mentioned that he though he was clipped in. I guess he hit his head and passed out. I don't remember much explanation beyond that.
I still don't get how he would end up screwed in the thing like that though, without anyone seeing a huge man in a critical component... I didn't see much room for a crawlspace for another way for maintenance to get in the ceiling.
I kept expecting for them to reveal that he stowed away on purpose, and I still kinda feel that he might have. If that is the case maybe someone helped him get in there and screwed him in.
Exactly! I could see him accidentally getting knocked out and staying in place but then why was he snugly behind a panel. Someone would have had to place that panel knowing he was there or he stowawayed on purpose. I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering about this it's been driving me nuts.
share Same here. Some one would have been bound to know one of their work crew was missing. You don't just walk in and out of a space cradft with out signing in a clip board some where on a ship that's so close to launch.
I originally thought there was something nafarious about his presence initially.
same here
shareDeleted scenes on the DVD reveal what happened:
His ex-wife, who also works at the space program, knocked him out after he made a joke about cheating on her.
Then a junior technician came upon his body and decided this was a perfect chance for a promotion, so the technician locked the guy's body inside the panel. When the guy didn't report for work, the tech got the guy's job.
Also, the guy's current wife, who also works at the space program, saw all this on the security monitor, and decided to make her own plan, too, instead of saving him. College would be very expensive for their kid, so she hurriedly took out a life insurance policy on her husband, hoping he'd die in space.
Finally, his kid was in on it, too. As an adult, the kid traveled back in time to make sure the guy was on that ship. When the ship arrives at Mars, it crashes on the planet, killing all aboard. The life insurance pays off, ensuring the kid goes to college.
Ha. One flaw in your post. No one bought a dvd of Stowaway!
shareHow come no one noticed a member of their team missing? Didn't he have any friends at work? Didn't he have a foreman he had to report to before launch? "Yeah, one of my technicians, who was working inside the spacecraft didn't come back and is missing but no big deal, I'm sure he'll show up."
shareMost bosses: "You there, go up there and do something, close the door behind you and stay there."
OH&S would have a field day. in real life. but real life does not a movie make...... nor do unbelievable plots, but it is 2021.
Short answer, no, they did not even seem to think about how someone would be pushed up against the ceiling, or whatever it was before the launch, and screwed in behind a panel so tightly. It was really terrible this movie, and as bad as it was they seemed to keep doubling down on making it worse.
I just keep thinking about how toni collette is not looking any better than she did 20 years ago. even her nudes (complete shaved jobs) are .. shudder..
shareI liked the movie, but there was no explanation of how he got from the launch vehicle into the space station (or whatever it's called), and tucked up in a ceiling space behind a screwed-on panel, all by accident. It makes no sense.
sharei was waiting for him to admit he did it on purpose.. i mean.. he was going to apply for a mission in the near future
the movie could've been far more interesting
I would think the extra weight would be noticed by sensors before liftoff. If no sensors, then liftoff might not be possible, but a problem would have occurred, been noticed, and researched,
