If there are any ladies reading this... How realistic is the social dynamic of the girls?

So, I'm a guy, and growing up I was never in a "clique" of any sort, much less a girls' clique... But the idea that a bunch of tweens gathered around discussing whether or not they have their period, breasts, wearing (non-training) bras.. How realistic is that kind of thing? Is that what girls ACTUALLY talk about in their social gatherings, or is that just for the benefit of young female viewers to help them understand that their thoughts, feelings, etc are "normal?" Obviously, feeling "normal" during those years, whether or not your physical, mental, and social development is on par with your peers, is important to everyone at that age... And I know to the degree that males going through puberty act (obv way different :-P ) But... Are these types of convos/situations common for girls growing up? Or are they just playing up these things for the sake of the viewer?

Very realistic from my experience at that age. I can't speak for today, but back in the 80s when we didn't have access to the internet, sleepover talk often included discussing what it was like to have a period, breast development, what it was like to kiss a boy (we weren't open to talking about kissing girls back then), we even talked about the sex scenes we just watched in the horror movie we had just watched.

Yeah. Like the book and the movie, a girl wants to fit in somewhere so she puts up with being bossed around by a neighbor/classmate.

She then decides that the person doesn't know everything after all. She is much happier hanging out with people who do not try and manipulate others for their own purposes.

I could totally relate to this book in elementary school.
