But I am a comic fan and liked the show. I did not think that I would like it since I was not a fan of the original limited series nor very much invested in their romance. I wasn't even going to give it a shot but saw one ep for reasons. I liked it quite a bit. I had some problems with a few things and the final episode was a tad weak but it was way better than I expected.
I agree that it was a perfect opportunity to bring in the mutants HoM style. But I like that they brought back Vizh and the nod the white Vizh is very cool. That is a cool era of the Avengers.
I loved it when it was trying to be experimental. Doing all these weird & zany things. But I hated that it went back to the usual "MCU formula" at the end. That finale was underwhelming af. Oh, sky beams & throwing energy beams at each other? We've already seen that sorta thing dozens of times.
Just finished Legion (2017) recently. Finally found time to watch the final season. It's unlike any of the other comicbook shows, in a good way. It's really not for everyone. It's totally bizarre & bonkers. One minute it's a mystery, then it's a tragedy, A Sci-Fi & then boom, it's a psychological horror. Oh yeah, there are musical numbers, which I surprisingly didn't hate
And what I loved about it is, it's that till the end. It doesn't devolve into something it's not. Doesn't try to become a "superhero show." That's something I wish WandaVision did.
I feel like it was mostly only disappointing to those who set their expectations too high. I'd say it's still great for those who have been fans of the MCU. At this point MCU fans who are also Marvel comic fans should know what the MCU doesn't exactly follow the comics.
Spider-Man No Way Home is going to have the same issue not living up to expectations/hype based on rumors and theories that haven't been verified.
