Is Agatha a villain?

She didn't hurt any civilians as far as we know.

Her fellow witches were trying to put her to death. I don't think that was because she was a nice person. It sounds like she was using magic rather freely back then, so I imagine she hurt some people. I don't think it was just to clean up around the house or make breakfast for dinner. So I'd say yes, but Wanda is a villain too imo. We've seen her do more damage than Agatha both in this show and in the MCU.

reply

From what I understand, in the comics, she's more of a neutral character but leaning more good than evil.

reply

She wasn't out to hurt people just to hurt them. She wanted to steal Wanda's power, and if she could point out that Wanda was the bad guy for controlling the townspeople to guilt trip her into turning it over, all the better.

reply

not a villain

reply

Agatha Harkness? Franklin's babysitter? Why would she be a villain suddenly, after 50 years?

reply

She had some self-serving behavior over the years. Didn't she have a connection to the Salem Seven? Been awhile since I read those FFs. I recall being uncertain about her then too.
She eventually babysat Wanda and Vizh's twins as well. She was the one that warned of the danger IIRC. I'd say lawful-neutral maybe?

She’s an antagonist in this show, not a villain

Turns out Wanda was the villain all along, which is admittedly exactly what I’d been hoping

Out of grief and bitterness, Wanda’s done some pretty horrible things throughout the MCU’s run

I always thought it was a bit too convenient that her misdeeds kept getting forgiven and forgotten

Seems Feige and co. didn’t forget after all. They took her further down that path, so far in fact that I don’t think she can ever be truly redeemed.

And that makes some very interesting storytelling. Bet Elizabeth Olsen’s champing at the bit, as well

reply

I agree with what you said but I was talking about comic book history. Agatha has no MCU history.

Welcome to the world of grey scales.

of course Agatha is a Villain and it depends on the type of laws, rules, or foundations that she has broken or circumvented. 😉

Natural Laws
Moral Laws
Man-Made Laws
Supernatural Laws

.....and maybe a bunch of others that I am not well versed enough to put on a screen.

Agatha kidnapped and mind-controlled Ralph Bohner. She also was mind-controlling Herb.
Agatha attempted to murder several SWORD officers
Agatha was a co-conspirator in the kidnapping in the town of WestView (She clearly could have broken Wanda's mind-control but chose to keep it in place as it fit her purposes) She definitely was NOT a Good Samaritan. 😎

Agatha stole Magic and practiced Magic without proper authorization or certification.
Agatha murdered her Mother
Agatha participated in the Mass murder of a Coven of Witches (She knew what she was doing.)
Agatha destroyed property (She blew up the WestView Gazebo)
Agatha violated the Law of Gravity (Of course I am jesting)

Agatha killed Sparky
Agatha Kidnapped, tortured and threatened Billy and Tommy.

Agatha probably broke some zoning or community covenants with whatever was going on in Ralph's basement.

Yeah, Agatha is a Villain.
