Pretty good review, Allaby.
Although, I don't think it's quite "that" good, it is a solid movie. But yeah, Chastain was very good and ended up taking the Oscar for best performance, which is mainly why I decided to watch it this week. However, I do think Andrew Garfield might have out-performed her in some scenes and he wasn't even nominated. Either way, they were both real good in this.
I didn't care for the over the top make-up job for Chastain though. Sure, Tammy Faye wore way too much makeup but this was a bit over-the-top in my view. Even the box cover/movie poster is out there. It almost looks like she's dressed up in a cheap Halloween costume most of the time.
Still, I liked it, I gotta give it a 7.2 out of 10. It reminds me of the last bio-pic I saw which was I, Tonya. I would have to say that I, Tonya is probably a little better than this but both are entertaining. TEOTF might not be worth watching if you pretty much know the story. I think this is a perfect script for people that actually don't know that much about the Bakkers. But then again, good luck in finding a few people that don't know much about them. lol...
It was quite impressive what they were able to accomplish in the world of religion and watching it come crashing down was a fascinating moment. It was all captured quite well in this little flick.
