Who will replace the irreplaceable Chadwick?

It’s got to be Shuri right? I think that’s the only person I could stomach taking over the mantle, at least for this movie.

Well the next Black Panther should be the eternally awesome Angela Bassett! The legendary Queen mother of Wakanda needs to step up and smack the world upside the head until it realizes what it's doing wrong and promises to change!!!

But Marvel will never do it, more's the pity.

reply

You’re right she is awesome and they could do it with CGI etc. but deep down inside it feels like it should be his sister Shuri.

reply

I think it'll be Shiri.

reply

Shuri seems likely. I thought I read somewhere that Ryan Coogler is actually creating a new original character to carry on his legacy which sounds needlessly complicated. Honestly, I think it'd be an interesting idea if M'Baku (Winston Duke) was chosen.

reply

Especially if they give her that technology angle (a la Tony Stark) - that would be pretty awesome.

reply

Please not Shuri. Nothing against the actress, but they gave her character a very annoying personality. I liked that T'Challa was one of the most stoic Avengers. There are already too many snarky characters as it is. Peter Quill, Ant Man, Rocket Raccoon, Hulk apparently now will also be a comedian, Doctor Strange occasionally. Thor and Drax are also used frequently for comic relief, just with less snark

T'Challa was a king and he carried himself with the regal air of a king. It was something new that he brought to the group dynamic. Shuri has already been firmly established as a nerdy comic relief character. We've already had so many of those in the main Avengers line-up. I suppose they could give her a character arc where she changes once she's forced to take on the responsibility of being the Black Panther, but I think changing her character drastically would feel forced

reply

I can see that. Maybe Shuri as an interim BP until a proper ceremony and challenge tradition takes place.

reply

I'm starting to get the impression that the Black Panther may not make an appearance in this film. Looks like it's going to focus on the people of Wakanda.

Maybe it's just filler to keep people interested and fulfill the cast's contracts while they finalize how to handle the situation long term.

reply

Well, that would be a logical way to run things, if they've got no more magic purple flowers then they aren't going to have any more magical kings with superpowers, and they'll have to change their system of government. But that wouldn't be any fun!

And it also wouldn't fit in with the Marvel brand, they're selling superhero movies! There has to be a superhero somewhere!

reply

Just some unknown off the street. They all look alike, (alt)right?

reply

It would be ok to recast the actor. They did that with Terrence Howard and Edward Norton as well. What's the problem with recasting Chadwick Boseman?

reply

A better analogy would be Richard Harris was replaced in the Harry Potter series because they need the character

reply

Because death was the cause of absence, yes. But when staying in the MCU those replacements suffice as examples.

reply

Personally i didn't like Michael B Jordan before from his previous films as being too cocky and such look wise but i think he has grown as an actor and i would rather he take up the mantel of Black Panther or at least one of the mantel's as i presume there might be a multiverse where we do have male, female and hopefully even a white panther.

Plus he has the height, look, build and looks tough enough.

reply

I feel like if people wouldn't freak out, it'd be someone like John David Washington.
