shareBeautifully filmed, Gretel & Hansel stars Sofia Lillis (of the 2017 It remake) as Gretel and Alice Krige as the witch. It's directed by Osgood “Oz” Perkins, the son of the late Anthony Perkins (Psycho). He could not very well make a slasher styled film that shows children as victims with a PG-13 rating. So he focused on Gretel and Hansel, which may be disappointing to some viewers expecting lots of blood. The lighting with candles, the production design and the costumes all add to the eerie style. It is leisurely paced, but it did not need the voice-over narration. It could have used more buildup and tension for the climax.
shareIt was so dark and twisted, more like a horror story for kids. I liked it a lot because of the morbid atmosphere. You could feel death in the air. When was the last time a movie did that?
