Michael Emerson is absolutely FANTASTIC!!

I knew he'd be awesome going in but he just outshines everyone. His character is sooo bad & I love every second he's on screen.

He elevates the show for me. It's a pretty "decent to good" show but without him, it just mostly falls flat for me. I don't care for most of the 'case of the week' stuff that they deal with.

They're mostly forgettable. But Emerson's character, 'Leland Townsend' makes it interesting.

Yes, he’s good, but so is the rest of the cast. The casting is uniformly outstanding. Being the antagonist, Emerson hogs attention, as Satan did in Milton’s Paradise Lost. Every story requires a GREAT antagonist, else it is boring; but the role of Sister Agnes, for example, is more challenging, because she is not an over-the-top, boisterous, noisy and annoying character like Emerson. She is simply quiet, STRONG, GOOD and filled with faith and love. I am certain Emerson would tell you how much he enjoys his scenes with her.

I am sorry that you only perceive Evil as a weekly-procedural show with a mediocre cast. You are missing so much.

I've only seen the first season & with the exception of a few episodes, I just found the whole show to be mostly ok.

I really like the show. I love the three main "detectives" and the stories and the symbolism. But, I totally agree, Leland's character just lifts it out of the ordinary and makes the show unique. I think it is completely brilliant having him be so funny and yet so evil at the same time.
