…the woke nonsense begins. Ridley Scott wasn’t making a movie about an oppressive patriarchal society, and the movie certainly wasn’t about male rape fantasies. That’s all projection from your some of the snowflakes who were interviewed. Good grief, Ben Mankiewicz, who’s a raging leftist, correctly saw the movie for what it is: a well-made, well-directed, scary science fiction movie.
That said, it’s common knowledge that the film plays on rape fears - the alien is a big black phallus that kills everyone with a mini black phallus hiding in its mouth, and it’s implied that Lambert gets a very rapey ‘tail between her legs’, plus of course the face hugger orally rapes its victim and impregnates a man. Giger’s designs are typically genital-inspired.
So that stuff’s in there, but it’s certainly not a ‘rape fantasy’, and I don’t see any oppressive patriarchy on display, other than maybe Ash trying to orally rape Ripley with a rolled up magazine, but he’s not really a ‘man’ is he?
It’s not even much of a feminist film. You could argue that a woman ultimately defeats the giant phallus and blasts it into space but Ripley wasn’t specifically written as a woman originally.
