shareFuck me, can we not just watch a film without working out how many different skin colours are represented? It was a white family - what did they expect - two white parents having a mix of black and white children?
Also, the US population is 14% non-Hispanic black, that means in a cast of 10 people, only 1 (technically 1.4) has to be black for it to truly represent the black population of the USA.
Are we then supposed to do this for every film, so that one person from each race is represented to be fair? Oh, what about gender, what about sexuality, what about transgender people, disabled people, mentally ill, morbidly obese, anorexic, where do we draw the line on representation in a film with only 10 main characters?
This film has a main cast of 15 people, so 1 black actor does actually represent the correct population ratio. I guess you could round up and have 2, but again this would be not a true "representation" of the actual numbers.
What they seem to be asking for is over-representation, which is fine, I guess, but don't pretend it's representative of the actual numbers.
Also, time period, context and location matter too, but clearly not to these delusional fuckwits.
We live in a political cesspool. It's always funny to me, when people like you engage in a little hyperbole to attempt to vent and/or laugh at it, your hyperbole actually matches the true wishes of others. Sad, more than funny, I suppose. A hilariously sad world, indeed.
That is what people want, now days, though; every family in every film to look like the kids from Captain Planet, while still being biological siblings, or, I suppose, just pretend that every family in America is comprised of all adopted children. I'm not sure of the actual logic behind it, if there is any.
There is no logic at all, it's all emotional-based thinking. Problem is, emotional-based thinking is always flawed, it always has statistical / historical / fact-based evidence to prove it's not true or accurate. If you start quoting facts and figures, you'll get "la, la la, can't hear you, you Nazi XXXphobe."
I'm all for proper representation in film, both in front and behind the camera. More should be done to push these unheard voices forward, but let's focus our energy in the right places and direct it at the right people. What these SJWs tend to do is push a lot of people away, because it's mainly about skin colour only, not the content of character, experience or unique voice of an individual.
