Pickard was a horrible captain.
He was like an uncommunicative neurotic that hated children, or was uncomfortable around them, and children are humans!
He seemed mentally ill to me and not someone I would follow. In addition, this is supposed to be in a future where humans are finally stable people, but he wasn't.
The two of them had a falling out over an awards ceremony (you can see the clip on YouTube somewhere). I'm by no means a fan of Corden but Patrick was a bit out of order in instigating it. Anyway, that's probably where that opinion comes from though I'm sure they made up since.
