Why every character uses the forced snooty accent?

Why does every character sound like a Lady Catherine de Bourgh wannabe? Lady Catherine de Bourgh was a very distinct antagonist and her accent reflected her judgemental and snobbish character. Why are all the characters in this show trying to sound like that? Every ballroom is like a ring of Lady Catherine de Bourghs, circling each other like sharks.

Lady Catherine’s RP accent reflects her class: her father was an earl.

Most of the characters in Bridgerton are from titled families. The program makes it clear in multiple ways that they are members of “The Ton” which is the group of people in the very highest pinnacle of society. They’re supposed to speak that way. Received Pronunciation is an indicator that someone is from that social class, of which the sons were educated at Oxford or Cambridge.

I get the RP accent but why so many have a snippy, judgemental tone? It is very hostile and makes “The Ton” seem like the petty world of The Real Housewives of Mayfair.

I only hear the accent. I watch a lot of UK costume drama (have done so weekly since the early 1980s) and I don’t think they sound any different than the RP accents in other series. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But seriously, You think The Ton are nice people who wouldn’t be snippy or judgmental? Think about s1, and how if Daphne put a foot wrong her reputation and that of her family would be ruined. That’s due to the social rules, which were snooty and judgmental.
