Mike calling those kids "millennials."

Was it intentionally ironic that a millennial actor called those Generation Z kids "fu*kin millennials!"?

reply

haha I hope so.. OR nobody actually knows what Generation Y kids actually are.

reply

I was hoping it was a joke too, making fun of the fact that everyone seems to think Millennial's are tweens. It's so hard to say though because again, everyone seems to not know what a Millennial is.

reply

If you say Gen Y, those refers to people born in the late 70s even.

reply

i believe gen X are people born late 60s to 1980

gen Y (millennials) are born between early 80s and mid 90s (+/- 1981 to 1996) so as to be the only generation to "come of age" during the early 21st century. gen X'ers would already be 20 years old+

Gen y isnt the same as millenials. Gen y refers to those born in the late 70s to 90s.

Gen y are millennials

Baby Boomers: Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. They're currently between 57-75 years old (71.6 million in the U.S.)

Gen X: Gen X was born between 1965 and 1979/80 and is currently between 41-56 years old (65.2 million people in the U.S.)

Gen Y: Gen Y, or Millennials, were born between 1981 and 1994/6. They are currently between 25 and 40 years old (72.1 million in the U.S.)

Gen Y.1 = 25-29 years old (around 31 million people in the U.S.)

Gen Y.2 = 29-39 (around 42 million people in the U.S.)

Gen Z: Gen Z is the newest generation, born between 1997 and 2012. They are currently between 9 and 24 years old (nearly 68 million in the U.S.)

Gen A: Generation Alpha starts with children born in 2012 and will continue at least through 2025, maybe later (approximately 48 million people in the U.S.)

First these are all market research categories in the US. They don't have an agreed age category. Some would label millennials to only 1984, others 1981, while some even 1977. And even then, all these supposed shared characteristics are all American characteristics that many outside of the US do not share.

2nd, gen y has been in use since the 90s to refer to the teenagers of that generation who grew up using computers. Millennials only came in later in the late 00s to specifically refer to those who are still in school by 2000, so some would have the cut off at highschool while other market researchers would have it at college.

Finally all you did was copy/paste from an article, I can also do that but it doesn't change the fact the gen y and millenials are not the same thing. Gen y was used far earlier and referred to an earlier age group that can either be a late gen x, millennial, or even a cusper.

The birth years for Millennials are a hot topic and one in which there is much debate. Based on The Center’s research, we place the birth years for Millennials from approximately 1977 to 1995 in North America.

I emphasize approximately because the ending of one generation and beginning of the next is almost always a transitional period of a few years, not one defining moment—except in the case of 9/11 in the U.S.

Since 9/11 was such a generation-defining moment in the U.S., Millennials end in 1995 and Gen Z begins immediately afterward. If you were born after 1995, our research shows it’s almost impossible to clearly remember 9/11 and have a deeply emotional, life-changing connection to it.

Another way I explain it in my speeches and writing is, “If 9/11 has always been history to you—and not something you personally remember—then you are not a Millennial; you are Gen Z.”

^^^This doesn't even apply to those outside of the US unfamiliar to 911. In the end, this is all just made up with no consensus even, so who cares?

Dates may vary, and I'm not American, I'm just saying that Gen Y is the same thing as Millennial. There are some who refer to those born in the late 70s to early 80s as Xennials.

reply

sslssg is completely correct.
Gen Y = millennial because it is the only generation to "come of age" during the new MILLENNIUM

it's pretty fucken worldwide as the 21st century was celebrated worldwide.
Gen X born in the 80s is already an adult by 2000

Alot of people think anyone born 2000 or later are Millinials. I called my Generation born in the 80s The Nintendo Generation. Cause that's when Nintendo first became famous.

reply

BORN IN 81...THE VHS GENERATION.

reply

The term millennial is overused these days and Mike isn't any different.

reply

Yeah, that caught my attention too. All Millenials are adults, the oldest being about 40 now. The mom would be a Millenial.
