Beautiful film if you suspend disbelief

I loved this movie. Gorgeous cinematography and good story, well acted. But any time Héloïse walked into Marianne’s room, she would have smelled the odors of oil painting! It’s not something you can hide.
To solve that dilemma, the story should have had a more clandestine painting studio.
Maybe it seems like nitpicking, but to anyone who paints, it raises a question. OK, I guess they were already using odorless turps back then.

A whole movie about painting someone’s picture. Sounds riveting! I’ll bet Peter Jackson could have turned it into a trilogy.

Few people paint, so it's a nit that takes specialist knowledge to notice. Boards like this are good homes for such knowledge, so your's is a fun and appropriate nitpick in my view.

Maybe she threw some perfume around. Or cat piss or smth

I didn't particularly like this movie but to find fault with it for its lack of olfactory verisimilitude is definitely nitpicking!

It's not nitpicking. Oil paints have a very strong odor. I found it incredulous that Héloïse didn't notice it.
