Scariest Darth Vader Ever?

So the first two episodes of the show were okay, but didn't quite pull me into the narrative. That all changed with episode 3.

Darth Vader striding down the street, seeking Obi-Wan, and wreaking havoc on those in his path is probably the most dangerous and downright scary that Vader has ever been. Until that scene, and the subsequent meeting between Vader and Obi-Wan, I was unconvinced that this series was necessary, but now it feels like something that will be an integral bridge between the prequels and the original trilogy.

I really want to see a proper rematch between those two before this series ends!

I thought that the fight with Obi-Wan had a few problems, but the walk down the street was pretty evil. I liked it when he was "suiting up" at the begining of the episode, too!

reply

The fight was disappointing in that Kenobi was so ill-prepared, but it also felt real. He looked desperate and scared. He did escape a little too easily, and they were too quick to be like "oh, he's gone." I hope there is a much better second confrontation in store!

reply

I agree with you. It was not really a fight because Obi-Wan was too weak for that. As you said they escaped very easily, I think it was not very realistic to see how Darth Vader did not do anything to retain them there.
But I like the serie so far.

reply

Obi-Wan didn't even yell out Anakin, which I was hoping he would, just to see Darth's reaction upon hearing his old name from his old mentor & master.

In A New Hope, Obi-Wan strides in against Darth Vader with ease, and is not scared, and they have a good duel. This series still needs to explain why and how Obi-Wan goes from outright fear and terror to winging it with ease in A New Hope, and there are a few episodes left to do just that.

reply

My hunch is that now that he knows Anakin is alive, he will rededicate himself to the Jedi arts, which will explain why he was much better equipped to face Vader when they had their final fight.

reply

Prediction:

Obi-Wan will finally communicate with Qui-Gon's spirit, re-embrace the Force, and pwn Vader in the finale.

It will be extra sweet if he calls Anakin "Darth" while doing it....

reply

Yes that would do it. I have full expectations for Liam Neeson to appear by series end!

Everyone associated with "Star Wars" just honestly needs to get every possible line reading from James Earl Jones that they can get. Right now! The guy's still going, but once he's gone, there will be NO ONE to fill his shoes.

In my opinion, Jones has provided the greatest voice acting performance of all time. Not even close by anyone I can think of.

reply

We may be already there.

Rumor is he didn't really do the voice performance for this. Supposedly they used the archive and recreated his voice like they did for Mark Hamill in Mando and BOBF.

reply

Hmmm, seems very organic. I wondered about that. But the line readings are very fluid. If Jones can still perform, they can still boost up the dynamic range of the recordings. But the performance is everything, and it seemed very real to me.

reply

I agree that whatever they did, they got him sounding like Vader again. He sounded off in Rebels and Rogue One....

reply

Agreed! Definitely. He sounded right on the money here. While the CGI has strayed too close to the "uncanny valley" with the visual de-aged characters, they got the sound really great here. Kinda freaked me out! :-)

reply

I'd argue that Scott Lawrence does a very good Vader voice...

i don’t think he’s redeemable anymore after watching him kill those people
