They wouldn't have been chosen
The crew is supposed to be the potential first contact with an alien race that may or may not want to destroy humankind.
And they send these volatile hot headed idiots?
no

Yeah it made no sense. Right from the jump, their primary concern seemed to be getting back to their families, rather than actually completing this extremely important mission.
Then, because the Captain makes the rational safe choice, they mutiny at the drop of a hat. Just who the hell made these people astronauts?
The whole premise seemed to be "this is our SJW future". And I got to say, as an image of that, its pretty damn on the nose. Its no kind of future Id want to live in but there you go.
shareOh, do you right wing nuts have to permeate the whole world with your nonsense? You really hate social justice so much ... do you even know what it is?
shareIn fact, he is annoyed that this show is trying to permeate left wing nut nonsense
he didnt mention right wing... well.. anything in that post
And to top it all off, they don't wear uniforms, but are allowed to stroll around the ship in their underwear. It's extremely unrealistic and unprofessional, there is no way the US Government would ever send a ship of teenagers and young 20 year olds (minus Katee who is in her 40's I believe) ready to have sex and bang on a First Contact mission.
shareShe was 39 when this was made.
shareThis series is not only ridiculous, but it's just plain bad. That said, I am not sure I don't want to see another season of those totally weird show because the aliens are intriguing.
shareSure they would have been chosen. It's a recon mission. You wouldn't send the best to die first. Would you?
shareit's a first contact mission
shareTrue, by the end of the season, you realize the scope of a first contact mission includes recon and running point, which usually means sudden death.
shareI got the feeling that we were intended to find it wierd that these young and immature people were being sent on the mission. They seemed to be deliberately expendable. One dies, you wake up another one. I think it's part of the mystery that we're meant to be unraveling.
