In the movie it looks like Matthew McConaughey saves his wife just as about she is to receive the yellow fever but when Matthew is lamenting the fact his wife was assaulted the flashback he has or his imagination is of his wife enjoying herself on the table. So did the penetration occur? And was the wife secretly into it?

In the flashback she makes a sex face and a smile, but that didnt happen in original scene.

She was relieved that her husband just arrived in time for not being raped
